Bring state-of-the-art science into your classroom
Zoom a Scientist is a science education program created by the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) to connect school classes with ISTA scientists. It starts a conversation between students and scientists that is free to go beyond just discussing science itself. In an interactive video session, students also get a chance to get to know the people behind the science and learn how science is done at an international research institute.
How does it work?
- Teachers/classes can sign up for an online video session. Based on their interest and/or subject, we will search for a matching ISTA scientist. Once a match is found, we will organize a joint online session.
- Before the online session, the classes will be asked to do some preparation on their own, depending on the topic of interest, by reading newspaper articles, scientific papers, or other materials provided by ISTA. Here are examples on plant growth (6th grade), immune cells (English, 10th grade) or basic research & quantum technology (11th grade).
- Then, the class gets to interview the scientist on the given topic, about their work, or daily life as a scientist in a 20-30min session.
Zoom a Scientist is open to all grades and subjects ranging from the natural sciences, to computer science to mathematics. The program is suitable for both in-class and online learning settings.
