Research Technician - Sweeney group

  • Full Time (40 h/w) preferred; Part Time (>20 h/w) possible
  • Klosterneuburg near Vienna, Austria
  • € 2,819* gross/month (based on a fulltime employment); position initially limited until 30.06.2026 (extension possible)

Your Responsibilities

The Sweeney Group aims to define the molecular, cellular and neural circuit components that underlie differences in motor behavior, and to explore how such differences arise during an organism’s development. The group uses swimming and limbed organisms including frogs, fish, and mice to address these fundamental questions. The frog is of special interest to the group as it undergoes metamorphosis, transitioning from a swimming tadpole to a walking frog during development. Their primary goal is to categorize, compare and manipulate neurons across metamorphic stages and swim/limb species. We are looking for a proactive team member to support us with the following tasks:

  • Being part of an interactive group of students, postdocs, and technicians with diverse backgrounds
  • Support with fish/tadpole/frog/mouse tissue histology and microscopy techniques (immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, confocal and lightsheet microscopy, and advanced image analysis)
  • Assistance with laboratory workflows for molecular biology and genetics analysis

Your Profile

  • Completed education or studies in the field of Biology or related (e.g. MTA, BSC or above)
  • At least one year work experience in a Biology laboratory
  • Experience with tissue preparation, cryostat sectioning, immunostaining, in situ hybridization, or related
  • Experience with confocal and/or lightsheet microscopy or related
  • Experience with molecular biology (PCR, cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, etc) or genetics (transgenesis, CRISPR, etc) methods or related
  • Good knowledge of English and the willingness to improve it (Institute language: English)
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability and a sense of responsibility
  • Enjoy working in an international team
