Approx. 1500 visitors from the Klosterneuburg and Tulln regions seized the opportunity of the Open Campus Day 2012 to enjoy the varied program provided by the top research institute for its fourth open campus day. Among the many attractions was the award ceremony for the students who contributed to the creative competition. A total of 130 children from six schools had participated in the competition open for kids aged 6-10 and 10-14. A premier was the presentation of a joint project of IST Austria and a local school. Students and teachers from BG/BRG Kolsterneuburg had been invited to integrate this year’s topic “Our five senses – how we perceive the world” into their lessons. A video was shown to introduce two of the experiments to the audience. The research islands set up by the IST scientists also attracted many visitors, who were given the chance to train their memory and investigate their own DNA. The family lecture by IST Professor Harald Janovjak and the science comedy by Bernhard Weingartner in the Raiffeisen Lecture Hall were the highlights of the Open Campus Day 2012.
