IST Austria Professor Jiří Friml one of the most cited researchers worldwide
Plant biologist Jiří Friml is on the list of "highly cited researchers" for 2020
As last year also 2020 IST Austria Professor Jiří Friml is one of the most influential international minds in science. This results from the current ranking of the highly cited researchers worldwide, published by Clarivate Analytics.
The annual survey examines how often publications by a researcher in medicine, natural and social sciences were cited by colleagues in their publications between 2009 and 2019. In addition to the number of publications in scientific journals, the number of citations is considered a measure of research work’s scientific relevance.
The ranking “Highly Cited Researchers” currently includes about 6,000 scientists worldwide from 22 research areas and is based on the citation database “Web of Science”. Jiří Friml received PhDs from the University of Cologne, in Germany, and Masaryk University, in Brno, Czech Republic. Before moving to IST Austria, he was a Group Leader and Professor in Tübingen, Göttingen, and Ghent. His research focuses on mechanisms underlying plants’ adaptability during embryonic and postembryonic development, with a particular interest in polar auxin transport mechanisms. He has won numerous awards, including ASPB’s Charles Albert Shull Award, the EMBO Gold Medal, and the Neuron Award for Contribution to Science from the Czech Republic.
