Systems Neuroscience Research Technician & Laboratory Manager – Douglass group

Your Responsibilities
The Douglass group focusses on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the control of physiology and behavior changes elicited to ensure survival in the face of environmental challenges using mice a model organism. We use imaging of neurons (cellular resolution and fiber photometry), biotelemetry recordings of physiology, neuroanatomical tracing methods, optogenetic and chemogenetic manipulations and machine-learning-based behavioral tracking. Previous experience in these fields/methods is advantageous but not essential. The position and compensation will be tailored to the experience and interests of the candidate but will be centered around maintaining and assuring the overall efficient running of the laboratory. We are looking for a proactive team member to support us with the following tasks:
- Taking a lead position in the lab organization (training students, ordering consumables, managing stocks, keeping our databases up to date)
- Implementation of new equipment and assistance in experimental setups
- Mediating interactions with our Scientific Service Units (e.g., Lab Support Facility, Preclinical Facility, Nanofabrication Facility, etc.)
- Actively engaging in research projects
- Being part of an interactive group of students, postdocs, and technicians with diverse backgrounds
Your Profile
- M.Sc.-level experience in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or related fields
- Experience in working with mice and one or more of the following: imaging of neural data (single cell calcium imaging or fiber photometry), optogenetics, biotelemetry recordings of physiology, stereotaxic surgery
- Experience with programming languages such as Python is a plus
- Proficiency in English with exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work independently and as a team-player
- Strong organizational skills, reliability and a sense for responsibility
- Proactive personality with a solution-oriented approach
