Postdoc in microglia-neuron interaction Research Group Siegert

  • Klosterneuburg (Vienna), Austria
  • € 69,188* gross/year
  • Application Deadline: until position is filled. Flexible start date

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to work on an FWF-funded project focusing on dissecting the morpho-functional relationship of microglia. In our recent publication, we have developed together with an international team of collaborators morphOMICs as a resource to distinguish microglia shape across different disease conditions. We are now interested to expand on this strategy and identify microglia shape to functional adaptations in the nervous system.

Your Responsibilities

  • identify and statistically verify distinct microglia morphological features across diseases conditions and different environments combined with the distribution of the intracellular organelles (in collaboration with KTH and EPFL);
  • develop deep learning strategies to automatize the process of microglia reconstructions and their interaction in large scale performance in static and live cell imaging procedures;
  • correlate those to changes in neuronal activity.

Your Profile

  • A PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, computational or system neuroscience, or relevant research field with published peer-reviewed conference and research publications on applying machine learning and/or data science strategies to biological questions.
  • Proactive personality and team player with highly proficient communication skills.
  • Excited to explain principles of your research topic to non-expert scientists.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliable and independent working style.
  • Curious and open-minded to identify and implement new analysis strategies.
  • Excellent programming skills across different programming languages (Python, Matlab, R).

Application documents: Please submit your motivation letter and curriculum vitae to Prof. Sandra Siegert with the subject title “Postdoc application for microglia profiling”.
