Postdoc Research Group Jonas
- Full Time (40h/w)
- Klosterneuburg (Vienna), Austria
- € 72,100* gross/year
Your responsibilities
The research team of Peter Jonas at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is an internationally leading group in the field of cellular neuroscience and neurophysiology. Specifically, the group is interested in the structure and function of synapses, from the level of molecules up to the level of circuits. At present, the group has two major research questions. First, we want to examine the mechanisms of synaptic transmission and plasticity at cortical synapses, with special focus on synaptic engram formation. Second, we want to analyze how synaptic properties shape higher-order computations in the brain. To address these questions, we use multiple-cell recording, subcellular patch-clamp techniques, Ca2+ imaging, cutting-edge light microscopy (confocal, two-photon, and expansion microscopy), electron microscopy, and computational modeling. The group focuses on hippocampal circuits, the main memory circuits in the mammalian brain.
For these ambitious projects, we have two postdoc positions available in the lab, supported by the Austrian Science Fund, the new cluster of excellence CoE16 “Neuronal Circuits in Health and Disease”, and basic funding from the Institute.
Candidates will be working as part of a highly dynamic research team in which structural, functional, and computational aspects are addressed in an interdisciplinary framework. Applicants will be integrated in both the interdisciplinary work of the institute and the new excellence cluster.
