Gaia Novarino receives CURE Taking Flight Award
Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE) awards grant to IST Austria Assistant Professor
Gaia Novarino was granted a Taking Flight Award 2015 from the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE). Founded by a small group of parents of children with epilepsy, CURE is the world’s leading nongovernmental agency fully committed to funding research in epilepsy. In keeping with CURE’s mission, the Taking Flight Awards are given to promote the careers of scientists and support them as they develop an independent research focus. Selected by the CURE Lay Review Council and scientific peer reviewers, IST Austria Assistant Professor Novarino received the one-year grant of $100,000 for her promising research on modeling epileptic encephalopathies in human brain organoids. She is a molecular and cell biologist who, after working at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin und the University of California San Diego, joined IST Austria in 2014.
