The library at ISTA provides predominantly electronic resources. Therefore, the main focus of the library lies on licensing eJournals and eBooks, and providing access to important databases and further electronic content.
On this site:
Off-campus access to licensed content is provided to ISTA members via a proxy.

BookList is the library catalog containing an increasing number of books and eBooks available at ISTA. Here you will find all book items offered by the library for general use, but it also includes numerous books held by the research groups of ISTA.
At the moment, the library offers approximately 2’000 books to lend in the fields of biology, mathematics, physics, computer science etc.
Library books are freely accessible 24/7 at the library located on the on the ground floor of Sunstone Building. With the exception of reference books, you can borrow these books by using the Self Checkout System.
BookList also lets you manage your library account. It shows the books you have recently borrowed, allows you to renew your borrowed items and to put books on hold.
Besides the physical books, you can also search the catalog for more than 150’000 eBooks licensed for ISTA employees. The catalog leads you directly to the publisher where you can read or download the items.
If you want to suggest a book for the library to add to its collection, don’t hesitate to use the Purchase Suggestion Tool. After login please enter the crucial parameters of the book you suggest and write a short comment why the library should provide the book. We will try to purchase books which could also be of use to other readers as soon as possible.
Document Delivery is a library service that helps you access articles, book parts or books not available at ISTA. Different options are available, depending on the type of document.

Web of Science
An online subscription-based scientific citation indexing service that provides a comprehensive citation search. It gives access to multiple databases that reference cross-disciplinary research, which allows for in-depth exploration of specialized sub-fields within an academic or scientific discipline.
Similar to Web of Science, Scopus is also a subscription-based bibliographic database containing abstracts and citations for academic journal articles.
A freely accessible web search engine that indexes the full text or metadata of scholarly literature. The Google Scholar index includes most peer-reviewed online journals of Europe’s and America’s largest scholarly publishers plus scholarly books and other non-peer reviewed journals.
The database provides full text searches of 1’900 journals but it also contains books, primary sources and current issues of journals.
Journal Citation Report
JCR offers a systematic, objective means to critically evaluate academic journals, with quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data. By compiling articles’ cited references, JCR helps to measure research influence and impact at the journal and category levels, and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals.
A free search engine accessing primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. PubMed provides quality control in scientific publishing. Only journals that meet PubMed’s scientific standards are indexed.
A database from the American Mathematical Society (AMS) that contains information on about 2 million articles from 1’900 mathematical journals, many of them abstracted “cover-to-cover”. In addition, reviews or bibliographical information on selected articles is included from many engineering, computer science and other applied journals abstracted by MathSciNet.
The Arabidopsis Information Resource (TAIR) maintains a database of genetic and molecular biology data for the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Data available from TAIR includes the complete genome sequence along with gene structure, gene product information, gene expression, DNA and seed stocks, genome maps, genetic and physical markers, publications, and information about the Arabidopsis research community.
Genevestigator is an innovative tool enabling researchers to globally explore public and proprietary expression data for research and clinical applications. The app is developed for biologists and medical researchers to rapidly find out how genes are expressed in different tissues, stimuli, drug treatments, diseases, or genetic modifications.
