Research Funding
High quality consulting, training and support for research grant applications and management
ISTA scientists have been exceptionally successful in attracting third-party funding from more than 60 national and international agencies, including over 150 million euro from EU framework programs and over 50 million euro from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). More than 75% of current faculty are ERC awardees – see awards page – while over 50 ERC grants have been awarded with ISTA as host. The ERC application success rate of our faculty – at close to 50% – is also among the highest in Europe. This sustained success in an ever-more-competitive third-party funding environment is not only an indication of the quality of research performed at ISTA, but also essential to its future development as a leading international research institute. As one third of the overall ISTA budget is conditional, the acquisition of third-party funds – including donations – is therefore essential to achieving the planned future growth of the institute.
The ISTA Grant Office provides researchers across all disciplines and career stages with high quality consulting, training and support for their research grant applications, as well as their administrative and financial management. The pre-award team supports current and incoming scientific employees in developing a funding strategy, identifying suitable third-party funding schemes, as well as proposal development and submission. The post-award team supports research groups with project set-up, project reporting, and questions related to project legal and implementation rules, budgeting and cost eligibility.
The Grant Office website provides contact details and outlines the specific services the ISTA Grant Office team offers to employees. In addition to the latest grants news and links to relevant national and international research grants and fellowship programs, grant holders at ISTA can access detailed information to aid them in grant management and administration (note: ISTA login required).
Incoming employees seeking funding to support their research as part of an ISTA research group can find relevant contact forms on our website. The Postdoctoral Office and Graduate School Office additionally offer funding opportunities for prospective postdoctoral and PhD candidates, respectively.
